Slamming It

Two NEO TC members are slamming it this summer.

First to begin is the Midwest Slam.
This is a new Slam series.  It consists of 4 100 mile races:

Kettle Moraine 100 Mile Endurance Run
Mohican Trail 100 Mile Run
Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run
Hallucination 100 Mile Run

Eric Deutsch is on deck to start the Midwest Slam this Saturday, June 2, in Wisconsin.
There is then a quick turn around to follow that up with Mohican 100 June 16.
He'll  have a bit more time to rest before tackling Burning River July 28.
Hallucination, in Michigan is September 7.

The Grand Slam

The Grand Slam of Ultrarunning award is recognition for those who complete four of the oldest 100 mile trail runs in the U.S. The "Slam" consists of officially finishing the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run, the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run and the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run all in the same year.

Dave Peterman was lucky in the WS$R lottery, and he is going for the Grand Slam this year.
He will begin his quest on June 26, in Auburn for the Western States Run.
Vermont follows quickly on July 16.
Leadville is on August 20, followed by Wasatch on September 9.

Best of luck guys!

Congrats to Baby Sasquatch at the Lakeview District Meet last week.
He ran in 4 events and advanced to the Regional Meet in all 4 races.

His first event was the 4x800 on Thursday, and his team took 3rd overall.
Baby Sasquatch was the anchor for the relay team and was in 5th place when he got the baton.
He was able to move up into 3rd place to secure a spot for the regional meet for him and his teammates.
(top 4 spots in each race advance)
Then he also ran the 800 and 4x400 pre-lims on Thursday and qualified for finals on Saturday.

Saturday his first event was the 1600.
The race ended up being a battle between Drake Sulzer from Woodridge and Baby Sasquatch.
With 150 to go Baby Sasquatch moved up on the outside on the far turn and then took the lead coming off the turn heading down the front stretch for the finish line.
With 40 meters to go Sulzer surged back, but Baby Sasquatch was able to get the lead back in the final meters of the race to win by 0.03 of a second in 4:28.41 to Sulzer's 4:28.44.

On to the 800 where Ryan Adams from CVCA took the early lead and everybody else was left chasing.
Baby Sasquatch was able to take 2nd place over Noah Lebay in 2:00.59 to Adams 1:58.80 and Lebay was 0.30 back with a 2:00.89 effort.

Last was the 4x400 where Baby Sasquatch was in the 3rd position on the team.
The Bulldogs were able to get 2nd place just ahead of a hard charging team from CVCA.
Liberty won the 4x400 with a stadium record time of 3:23.06, Lakeview ran 3:28.66, and CVCA finished in 3:29.11.

This weeks regional will take place in Bedford on the same schedule as last weeks meet, with Pre-lims on Thursday and then Finals on Saturday.
The top four from each event this week will advance to the State Meet in Columbus to run at the Jesse Owens Stadium at Ohio State University.

Good Luck to everyone in high school track looking to advance.
