Congrats to David Peterman who ran Hellgate Friday night and into the day on Saturday.
Dave finished in 15:33:58.
126 runners started and 111 finished the race, which began at 12:01 am on Saturday.

MMT 100 Lottery Results

Yesterday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed UP at 11,372.48. Since the last 3 numbers of the closing DOW are used as a starting point, the starting number was 248. Then, 205 entrants are selected by counting up. Therefore, if your random lottery number was between 248 through 751 then you will be eligible to enter the 2011 Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Miler on Friday. Bigfoot 50K Race

NEO Trail represented quite well at the inaugural Bigfoot 50K Race held Sunday, December 5, at Salt Fork State Park, Ohio.

Big congratulations to Jim Harris, for finishing 1st Masters and 6th Overall Finisher. Jim's finish was eclipsed by the 5th overall finisher, his son Eric Harris, in a smoking 4:55:59, his ultra running debut!





Mike Keller, with Jim Harris yelling at him, managed to get under the wire for a sub-six hour ultra finish, at 5:59:08!!

Western States Lottery

Congratulations to NEO Trail member, Eric Deutsch, for getting selected in the Western States Lottery. The Western States Endurance Run is the oldest and original of the 100 mile foot races.

By being selected in the Western States lottery, Eric could also contemplate the Grand Slam of Ultra Running: The Grand Slam is a set of four of the most prestigious 100 mile races contested in the United States, compromising the Western States in Califorinia, The Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run in Vermont, the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run in Utah, and the Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado.

The first ever NEO Trail Fest will be held in conjunction with URINEO in Mill Creek Park on December 18th, at 1:00 PM.  The party is open to everybody in NEO Trail and also anyone running the URINEO FA.  With the party scheduled to start at 1:00, everyone who is running is encouraged to adjust their start time so that they will finish their run at 1:00.  There is no set distance, but the "official course" is an 8 mile loop, that runners do 1-6 times, depending on his/her preference.

Please RSVP to the NEO Trail President Bob Combs (bobcombs100@gmail.com) if you are planning on coming to the Fest no later than December 13th.  We need to get an accurate count for the mass consumption that will occur during the afternoon.  Please bring a dish to share with everyone.  A stove and oven are available in the cabin, as well as electric outlets for crock pots and what not.

Slim Pickins 2010

We had the best staging area for the 2010 Slim Pickins. This year, cabins were rented in Linn Run State Park, just a few miles from Donegal, PA. This is on the north side of the PA Turnpike.

Most of the Slim Pickins runs have revolved around a run on the Laurel Highlands Trail. Some runs originated at the south terminus of the LH Trail, in Ohio Pyle. One epic SP run was the Reverse LH in 2007, where the run began at Mile 70, and finished in Ohio Pyle. Only four NEO Trail Members finished the entire 70 miles.

The closing of the Turnpike Bridge-and a severing of the LH Trail made the idea of a cabin at Linn Run State Park a great idea.

Starting at the Linn Run State Park gave us numerous trails to explore, including going over to the LH Trail and running there, and then back to the cabin.

Kim, Bruce, and Bob were able to get some mileage in on Friday. Rich "The Professor" Vrbonic arrived in time for dinner Friday night.

There was enough food to feed 12 or 15 hungry ultra runners.
The weather was beautiful on Friday night, with a huge full moon. So a night run was organized, getting in six miles in the darkness. In some spots the headlamps were extinguished, and we could run in the dark.

Rich had dropped Aid at the Route 30 Parking Lot-thanks Rich!

Various distances were covered. Cam turned at the Aid Spot, going off on his own to run some side trails for future exploration. Rich and Jim ran around 40 miles. Kim, Bob, and Bruce ran around 28 miles.
There was talk of another night run, but the huge offering of food from club members-pirogies, lasagna, sausages, chili, chips, dip, made it too hard to leave the roaring fire and camaraderie.

There are future runs being considered with the Linn Run State Park cabins being used as the meeting place. Come join us sometime!

West Virginia Trilogy

This past weekend NEO Trail member Kim Love-Ottobre completed 2 out of the 3 runs that are a part of the West Virginia Trilogy, which is organized by the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners. On Friday she completed the 50K in 8 hours and 57 minutes and on Sunday she finished the half marathon in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Congrats!

Grindstone 100

Big Schloss FA 50K

This past weekend Bob Combs, Jim Harris, and Brian Musick completed the 8th running of The Big Schloss FA 50K. This free no frills event starts and finishes at the Trout Pond Campground in Wardensville, WV and traverses through the George Washington National Forest in WV & VA. YUT-C Update

Thanks to Mill Creek Park, the limit on the YUT-C 50K has been lifted for the first time in the race's history. Race Day Registrations WILL BE accepted! The 25K remains sold out but anyone can register for the 50K and drop at the 25K point.

The Ring

Congrats to NEO Trail Club member Kim Love-Ottobre for joining the "fellowship of the ring" this past weekend, by completing the VHTRC's annual run titled "The Ring". She has also declared her intentions to move on to the "Reverse Ring" in February... another stepping stone.

For the unititiated, The Ring is a circuit of the entire 71-mile orange-blazed Massanutten Trail in the George Washington National Forest, on the ridgelines of the eastern and western ranges of the Massanutten Mountains around the Fort Valley, roughly between Front Royal and Luray. The "trail" is hard, rocky and slow. Sections of this trail have been around in some cases for centuries, but the entire, uninterrupted, 71-mile Massanutten Trail was not completed until 2002. The Virginia Happy Trails Club immediately pounced on this trail upon completion and now every fall more runners are initiated into the Ring.

YUT-C 50K Limit Extended

The YUT-C 50K will reach it's limit today or tomorrow. However, the race director will accept more entries BUT all entries must be received ON or BEFORE Saturday, September 11th. Any entries received after this date will be returned. Note: the 25K remains sold out.

The YUT-C 25K is filled, but entries will be accepted until this Saturday Aug 28th.  After the 28th entry is CLOSED.  Any 25K entry received after the 28th will be returned. 

Approx. 25 spots remain for the 50K as of 8/24.

Leadville Trail 100 Results

Congrats to the 363 individuals that crossed the Leadville 100 finish line this past weekend within the 30 hour time limit. 99 of them finished sub-25 hours.
