The dust and dirt has now settled from NEO TC "King of the Miles" 2011 contest, and one person ran away with the clear title of King of the Hill Miles.
That would be Paul Lefelhocz, who ran, in "races" 1085.2 miles. These were all ultra events, including 8 100 mile-or longer-events for Paul. Out of his 100 mile-or longer-races, Paul finished 4 of 8, a good 50% finish rate. It should be noted that one of his 100 mile races was The Barkley Marathons.
His longest race was the Last Annual Vol State Race, 314 miles across the state of Tennessee.
A comparison on what a huge accomplishment this is:
Trail Runner Magazine also holds a Trail Running Trophy Series Contest, with a point structure far more convoluted that the Rules Committee KOTM contests. Their 2011 series has concluded.
In a contest, which is open to runners all over the North American continent (that means Canada too), their Mile Mogul winners were only able to cover 677.4 (for males) and 429.5 (for females). Paul almost beat their combined mileage!!

Weekend Racing Recap
There are still racing going on despite the shorter days of November.
Nick did not waste any time after his splashdown back in the States by participating in the "Stomp the Grapes" 1/2 Marathon with his wife, Marjie. They finished in 2.39.
A few NEO TC members went south, to Burr Oak State Park, for what may be the last Bob Cat Marathon. The Burr Oak State Park Lodge will be closing down due to financial difficulties. This trail marathon runs more like an ultra.
Ron Ross finished the race in 4.55.
Brandon Russell was not far behind in 4.59.
Courtney Russell must have let Brandon get ahead of her. She finished in 5.03
And what did the King do, one weekend after his Double Marathon at Run With Scissors?
Run another 100 mile race, of course!
Paul Lefelhocz finished the Pinhoti 100 Trail Run in 28.50! Congratulations Paul! Rumor is that Paul now has (unofficially) 1085 Raced Miles for 2011.

Burning River 100
Congratulations to all who participated in the Burning River 100 Mile. And big THANK YOU to the many many volunteers who gave up their weekend to support the runners!!
There were some great performances by NEO TC members:
Courtney Russell 25.38.54
Roy Heger 25.38.59
Paul Lefelhocz 27.16.43
Ron Ross 28.51.06
Kurt Osadchuck 28.36.27
The 100 mile distance of the past weekend must have seemed 'short' for Paul Lefelhocz, who earlier in the month completed the 314 distance of the Vol State Race. The other participants in the "King of the Miles" contest should be relieved that July is over and Paul can't add any more miles for the month!

Summer Buckeye Trail 50K
This past weekend several club members participated in the 15th annual Summer Buckeye Trail 50K, which is an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at the Oak Grove pavilion in Brecksville, Ohio. The weather was unseasonably cool this year with highs in the upper 60s and even some rain. A nice break though from previous years where it has been sunny and in the mid to upper 80s. Once again, Vertical Runner was able to organize another quality event and finishers of this year's event were treated to a new finishers medal in the shape of the Buckeye Trail blue blaze. Here is the list of N.E. Ohio Trail Club members who finished this year...
Dave Peterman - 4:59:29 (20th overall)

2009 No Frills, Just Hills FA
The 2nd Annual No Frills, Just Hills FA took place yesterday at Kendall Hills in the Cuyahoga Valley. Twenty-four total runners started the event sharply at 8 AM, seeing how many loops they could complete in the 6-hour time limit. An alternative course was required this year due to construction at the dam. This year's loop totaled 2.25 miles instead of last years 2 mile loop.
Jim Chaney won the title this year in a record setting 15 loops. Suzanne Pokorny led the women with 11 loops. And Jim Christ's dog, Jordan, led the non-human category completing 1 loop. Again, runners enjoyed the event sharing stories, miles, and food afterwards.
NEO Trail members that took part in the event include: Brian Musick, Courtney Baker, Dave Peterman, Jeff Musick, Jim Christ, Kim Love-Ottobre, Mark Anson, Paul Lefelhocz, Tanya Cady, Jim Harris, and Bob Combs

Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Miler
This past weekend several NEO Trail members completed the 15th running of the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run despite having some of the worst weather conditions in the race's history and the 3rd lowest finishing rate to date. The day began with light fog and humidity levels near 100%. As the sun burned off the haze, the temperature and the dew point quickly rose. In nearby Front Royal, the temperature topped out at 85F at 2 pm, while the dew point was miserably above 70 from noon until after 2 p.m.After being broiled, the runners were "treated" to a round of torrential rain and frequent lightning durign mid-afternoon. A second more significant round of thunderstorms swept over the course between 6 and 7 pm with nasty lightning and even reports of golf ball sized hail. This second system lingered until 10:30 or so. Radar estimates showed that 1 to 2 inches of rain fell over the entire course between 2 p.m. and midnight.
Here are the club results:
Lloyd Thomas - 100 miles - 27:41:38
Bill Losey - 100 miles - 33:51:31
Bob Combs - 100 miles - 34:32:44
Paul Lefelhocz - 81.4 miles
Brian Musick - 64.9 miles
Dave Peterman - 48.2 miles
