Weekend Racing Recap

There are still racing going on despite the shorter days of November.

Nick  did not waste any time after his splashdown back in the States by participating in the "Stomp the Grapes" 1/2 Marathon with his wife, Marjie.  They finished in 2.39.

A few NEO TC members went south, to Burr Oak State Park, for what may be the last Bob Cat Marathon.  The Burr Oak State Park Lodge will be closing down due to financial difficulties.  This trail marathon runs more like an ultra.

 Ron Ross finished the race in 4.55.

 Brandon Russell was not far behind in 4.59.

And what did the King do, one weekend after his Double Marathon at Run With Scissors?

Run another 100 mile race, of course!

Paul Lefelhocz finished the Pinhoti 100 Trail Run in 28.50!   Congratulations Paul!  Rumor is that Paul now has (unofficially) 1085 Raced Miles for 2011.

Although these NEO TC members just ran  YUTC the week before, they also completed the Akron Marathon.

Burning River 100

Congratulations to all who participated in the Burning River 100 Mile. And big THANK YOU to the many many volunteers who gave up their weekend to support the runners!!

The 100 mile distance of the past weekend must have seemed 'short' for Paul Lefelhocz, who earlier in the month completed the 314 distance of the Vol State Race.  The other participants in the "King of the Miles" contest should be relieved that July is over and Paul can't add any more miles for the month!

Mohican Results

The Mohican Marathon, 50 mile, and 100 Mile Race was held last weekend at Mohican State Park/Forest. The weather was the usual "Mo weather" hot and humid.

NEO Trail Members who finished races were:

Ron Ross, finishing the 100 Mile, in 30.56

Courtney Russell, with a very impresive time in the 50 mile race: 11.22
Desiree Cowie and Tara Schweitzer managed to finish before Wild Bill Wagner in the 50 mile race. Their times were: Desiree 12.57, Tara 13.52, and Bill 14.00.44

2009 Burning River 100

Starting Saturday morning bright and early at 5 AM, ultra runners took part in the 3rd annual Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run. The event lasted into the night and ended at 11 AM Sunday morning. Runners were forced to deal with rain most the night and some muddy trails.

Mark Godale won the event this year with a time of 16:16. On the women's side, Connie Gardner won with a time of 19:21. An amazing total of fourteen NEO Trail members ran in the endurance race today. Members that participated include TJ Hawk, Nick Billock, Greg Murray, Kurt Osadchuck, Ron Ross, Brandon Russell, Courtney Baker, Brian Musick, Dave Peterman, Bill Wagner, Frank Dwyer, Mike Halkovich, Kim Love-Ottobre and Paul Lefelhocz.

Summer Buckeye Trail 50K

This past weekend several club members participated in the 15th annual Summer Buckeye Trail 50K, which is an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at the Oak Grove pavilion in Brecksville, Ohio. The weather was unseasonably cool this year with highs in the upper 60s and even some rain. A nice break though from previous years where it has been sunny and in the mid to upper 80s. Once again, Vertical Runner was able to organize another quality event and finishers of this year's event were treated to a new finishers medal in the shape of the Buckeye Trail blue blaze.

Cleveland Marathon 2009

The 32nd annual Cleveland Marathon was underway bright and early this morning at 7:00 AM. Runners toed the line at the intersection of E. 9th St. and St. Clair Ave. The race this year featured a brand new course which headed West for an out-and-back loop then headed East past the start for another out-and-back loop. The newly designed course directed runners East on the lakefront so the wind was at their back. The course also featured less turns and traffic, extended views of the lake, views of all three professional sports stadiums, and a spacious finish line area. The events Sunday drew a large diverse crowd providing four events including the marathon, half, 10K and 5K.

Forget the PR, Mohican 50K

This past Sunday, 11 NEO club members took part in the Forget the PR Mohican 50K held at the Mohican State Park Campgrounds in Loudonville, Ohio. Winter Buckeye Trail 50K

The Winter Buckeye Trail 50K took place this past Sunday in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The N.E. Ohio Trail Club was well represented with Dave Peterman winning the 50K with a time of 5:35:15 and Jim Harris' son, Heath, winning the half marathon with a time of 1:57:30.

Other NEO Trail members that finished the 50K were Nick Billock (5:56:47), Frank Dwyer (6:39:15), Jim Harris (6:01:53 and 40 extra miles the night before!), Paul Lefelhocz (7:50:16), Kim Love-Ottobre (10:24:54), Brian Musick (6:34:04), Kurt Osadchuk (7:53:00), and Ron Ross (6:12:32).

Half marathon finishers were TJ Hawk (2:39:00), Stephan Kremer (2:45:00), Bruce McMurray, and Rob Truscott (2:18:40).

Also, special thanks to race director Tanya Cady, Lloyd Thomas, and Bill Wagner for volunteering their time.
